Enrichment Activites
Here are some other activities
you can do with the Bilingual Beginnings Language Learning System:
- Find-It with Bina the butterfly puppet: After reviewing
the words in the DVD and books, another way to review is for the
parent/caregiver to write down some of the words on strips of
paper. Place the papers in Bina's pockets. Have the child pull
one word at a time, parents read the word and then ask the child
to find the different object around the house. Take Bina
along as you point out the different words around the house or
neighborhood.
- Spanish Immersion: Watch only the Spanish version of the
DVD and review only the Spanish words in the books. (For assistance
with the pronunciations of the words in the book, click on the
Board Books Pronunciations link below.) Make an entire day of
Spanish-only practice.
- Flash Card Fun: Use the flash cards to review the words
from the DVD and books. Insert the cards in the pockets and have
children pull out one at a time. Ask the child to identify the
picture on the card (if they are not reading yet). Repeat
the word to your child and have them try to find the same object
around the house.
- Hide-and-Seek with Bina: This activity includes gross
motor skills as well as testing a child's memory and language
skills. Parent should place Bina, the butterfly puppet, over an
object mentioned in the DVD and books (examples: toy truck, toy
car). Ask the child to search for Bina. When the child
finds Bina, ask them to name the object (either in English or
Spanish).
- Valuable Verbs: Parent or child holds Bina and acts out
various verbs (ie jumping, running, walking, pushing). Ask the
child, "What is Bina doing?" Answers should be the verb
being demonstrated (jump, run, walk, etc.) said in English or
Spanish.
If you have
another activity that you would like to share with other parents,
please send it to thoughts@mylittlethinkers.com. We will review
it and if approved, we will add it to the list!
